Miner, Walton elected to District 1 position

SOUTH HADLEY ā€“ District 1 saw a lively election Monday, April 25 with three contested positions.
Up for grabs were positions for moderator, board of water commissioners, the prudential board, treasurer and clerk. The last three were contested.
Vying for a single, three-year term on the prudential board were incumbent Raymond Miner, Dennis Hogan and Greg Sheehan. Miner won the position with 271 votes, while Sheehan accrued 216 and Hogan 136.
Positions for clerk and treasurer were opened up when current District 1 Clerk/Treasurer Meg. St. Martin retired after 33 years in the district. Terie Fleury and Monica Walton ran for each of the three-year positions. Walton won both, with 422 votes for treasurer and 417 votes for clerk. Fleury received 267 votes for treasurer and 261 for the clerk position.
Elected to the board of water commissioners for a three-year term was David Daly with 498 votes and elected to the position of moderator for a one-year term was Mark Beauregard with 541 votes.
St. Martin estimated there are approximately 9,000 or 10,000 residents in District 1 who are registered to vote. Of that number, 692 cast votes in the 2011 District 1 election.
