SOUTH HADLEY – With the Holyoke St. Patrick’s Day Parade quickly approaching, along with it comes the annual Leprechaun Plunge, hosted by Brunelle’s Marina.
Plungers will bravely hop into the chilling Connecticut River on March 13 in an effort to raise funds for charities such as the Dana Farber Jimmy Fund, Springfield Shriners Hospital, South Hadley youth and high school athletics, the Joe Kareta Scholarship Fund, the Donnie Baker Scholarship Fund and Jessie’s House.
In just two weeks, the number of registered participants has tripled from 20 to 60. Brunelle’s is hoping to top their previous total of 70 pledges and reach the 100 mark. It’s clear that this cause has gotten the community involved.
“We want as many people to participate as possible,” said Luke Brunelle of the Leprechaun Plunge. Residents are encouraged to register through the Brunelle’s Marina website at HYPERLINK “http://www.brunelles.com” http://www.brunelles.com or on site the day of the Plunge.
Registration begins at 12 p.m. and the plunging will kick off at 1:30 p.m. Registration costs run at $30 and included in that fee is a long-sleeved T-shirt as well as a corned beef and cabbage dinner hosted at Dockside Restaurant. Tickets for the Bobby Darling Dinner Show can also be purchased for an additional $25 hosted by Dockside from 6 to 8 p.m. A portion of these proceeds will be donated to the charities. Those interested in contributing while staying dry can purchase a “Chicken Leprechaun” ticket that includes the Irish celebratory dinner for $30.
To wrap up the festivities, Brunelle’s will be entering a Leprechaun Plunge float in Holyoke’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade the following Sunday, March 20. While the design of the float is being kept under wraps, it’s sure to be a hit.
“I don’t want to spill the beans but I think we did a pretty good job with it,” said Brunelle.
Brunelle’s Marina is located at 1 Alvord Street in South Hadley. For more information, call (413) 563-3132.
