Winter weather postpones ‘Winter Wonderland’
Rescheduled for Feb. 26

SOUTH HADLEY- Too much winter has gotten the Winter Wonderland event, hosted at the Ledges Golf Course and sponsored by Know Your Town, postponed in hopes of better conditions.
With nearly two feet of snow barricading the greens and icicles the size of ski poles, it’s clear that any outdoor activities would have been dangerous.
Fortunately, Mother Nature has calmed down enough for the winter festivities to be rescheduled to Feb. 26 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
All events will be held as previously scheduled except for two. Due to too much snow on the Ledge’s pond, ice skating will not happen, nor will the horse drawn wagon rides.
However, the hills are ready for sleds, toboggans, and tubes alike while paths have been cleared for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.
A Chicopee volunteer has offered guidance for interested cross-country skiers of all ages. Limited equipment will be available but residents are encouraged to bring their own gear if possible.
A winter obstacle course invites challengers to take on its levels of difficulty. And with a snowman building contest topping off the day, the Winter Wonderland event is sure to be a hit!
Because all activities will take place outdoors, residents are reminded to dress appropriately and be prepared for the weather. Warm concessions and hot chocolate will be sold on the patio, including soup, hot dogs, homemade deserts, popcorn water and cider. Restrooms will be available. Fire rings will be scattered across the space at which residents can warm up after participating in activities.
“I think it’s great exposure,” said Ledges General Manager Marissa Kulig, in a Jan. 28 Town Reminder’s article regarding the Winter Wonderland event. “I don’t think a lot of people know we’re out here. Hopefully it will be a start to more events in the future. I’m glad they [Know Your Town] contacted us. It’s a good partnership.”
Linda Young, Know Your Town member, has high hopes for the Wonderland’s turnout. If all goes well, it just might become an annual event.
“The intent of Winter Wonderland is to encourage more residents to check out what The Ledges has to offer aside from golfing. It’s a great spot,” said Young. “It’s beautiful.”
